SNOW ON THE EVERGREEN

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

What does the Bible say about snow?
White as Snow:
"Come now, let us reason together,"
says the LORD.
"Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool."
Isaiah 1:18

Snow is white, isn’t it? When the bright sunshine hits it, you can hardly see anything else. Who loves people? The one who created them loves them. And that would be God. God can make sin white as snow. We know that Abraham believed and God credited it to him as righteousness. No one has righteousness by themselves because the Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. But God Himself says “Come now, let us reason together.” Our sins can be as white as snow.

White as Snow: What else does the Bible say about snow?

"As I looked, "thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of his head was white like wool."
Daniel 7:9a

The Ancient of Days is a reference to Jesus, although it could be God the Father here. (But remember, God is three persons in one, including God, the Son.) Daniel wasn't just in the hungry lion's den unscathed. God revealed to him truths, including those about the future, in dreams and visions. The Ancient of Days took His seat. We read in Hebrews chapter 1 that after Jesus (who is the exact radiance of God’s glory) provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

White as Snow:  In Matthew 28:3, it says:
His appearance was like lightning,
and his clothes were white as snow.

and Revelation 1:14:
His head and hair were white like wool,
as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.

These images paint a powerful picture. Jesus is powerful. All judgment has been given to Jesus and the earth is His footstool. Justice will be done, one of these days, just as God's Word says.

Clean, fresh snow covers up. When we receive Jesus Christ into our heart, God gives us the power to become His child, as it says in the verse today's poem is based upon. Our sins are covered, like the white coating on the evergreen tree. He credits our faith to us as righteousness. We’re not born righteous. We’re not born children of God. We can’t be born children of God. We know this because if that were true, there would be no need for Jesus, the Redeemer. We must become children of God.

 (I have wondered about infants who have died. But can we trust God's judgment? God's judgment is always correct and trust-worthy. I can accept this.)

Today's Prayer Word:
As the season of snow falls, remember to pray for our nation and its leadership. Pray earnestly for your family and business, your church and Pastor. Pray for Israel and Jerusalem. Pray for the Persecuted Church, especially North Korea. Pray persistently for your friends.

Take it up with the highest authority who made snow to grace the evergreen and provided grace for the ever-faithful, even to generations.

Forgiveness brings white as snow Joy.
