THE DAFFODIL’S TRUMPET

The daffodil stands by the edge of the wood,
‘neath a slumbering red maple tree,
and he picks up his trumpet of finest pure gold
to announce the beginning of spring.

He’s early to wake from the long, bitter cold
and his yellow suit coat is a joy
which can heal the long worn out expressions of old,
and soothe the dark ages of yore.

He stands on a knoll that will carry the tune,
where the sun shines a-warm on the dew.
And he plays out a “Toot, Ala Toot-ti-ly Toot!
Wake up, trees and critters, all living things, you!”

His song wakens others and soon there are many
to proclaim the renewal of life.
Their horns call brightly! The woods, they are waking—
away with worries and strife!

The daffodil smiles in the light of our Lord
and declares our dependence on Him,
and reminds us of joy that only Christ gives
and life coming only from Him.

Lift up your heads, O you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
 Psalm 24:7

THE DAFFODIL’S TRUMPET

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.
Galatians 3:13

Today is GOOD FRIDAY. Why is this day good?
This day is good because Jesus has redeemed us who believe.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:1-2

There are two ways to walk—one after the flesh and one after the Sprit. Believing in the Son of God—Jesus, who went to the cross for us this day years ago as recorded in God’s Living Word, is the walk after the Spirit and equals no condemnation.

Christ believers know true freedom.
Christ believers know amazing grace.
And, Christ believers know the Comforter whom He sent.

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53: 3-6

Amazing grace. That is what comes to my mind.

THANK YOU, JESUS!

I trust this comes to you too.

But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. and when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they believe not on me; of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
John 16:5-11

So much depends on faith. Even faith like a mustard seed is better than no faith at all. By faith, the Holy Spirit dwells within us and guides us into all truth. The Holy Spirit, or Comforter, comforts us, reminds us and teaches us. With no faith, nothing happens. Pray to the Miracle Worker. God is able to perform miracles even now. He has not lost that ability nor will He ever.

The daffodils are not blooming yet here in Veery Glade, but the green shoots are above ground, which happens to be bare of snow. Hooray! I love snow, but not so much in April. Renewal returns. Birds are moving into the woodland realm and the sun shines bright. In the dead of winter, one may not have known the existence of spring. But with faith in the timing of seasons orchestrated by our loving Creator, we hoped it would occur as it did last spring. God teaches us that He’s got this. Jesus has this. We are in very excellent hands.

For the word of the LORD is right, and all His work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.
Psalm 33: 4-5

May we walk in humility aware of God’s goodness.
