I just finished this excellent story!

Even though it is for middle grade readers,

I felt like I still related to Lily and her different struggles.

Elstar and all the friends from the world of Whule made

me excited for Heaven. I loved all the reminders of Jesus

portrayed through Elstar's character. An excellent, moving story!

THE LONG SKIP HOME is a Christian upper middle grade fantasy debut novel written and illustrated by Lisa Belknap. Discouraged from school, the world, and her own mistakes, twelve-year-old Lily Lightfoot retreats to the woods in search of help to obey God’s command to love enemies. In the thick woodland realm, a mysterious lamb appears after Lily prays. He leads the way into an enchanted world where an angellike woman adorned with butterflies introduces Lily to nine wise friends. The angel promises to guard Lily and the friends speak encouraging words. But will Lily hear God’s wisdom in time to help a troubled soul? Will she love an enemy as God commands? Sail with Lily over the turbulent waves of Gala Lake to the deep places of the heart where hearing is only made better by doing.

A Little About Me

I write Christian poetry and fiction to glorify Jesus Christ through verse, storytelling, and art. In a high school creative writing class, the teacher shared a few of my short stories with the class. Music, however, was my passion and I pursued a career in music studying piano and organ, first at Messiah College, and then Ithaca College, graduating with a B.M. in Music Education. I also earned a M.S. in Reading from SUNY Cortland. After raising two adventurous children with my husband and careers in music teaching and business, I returned to writing. In the woodland realm around our home, which we like to call Veery Glade, there is, as God permits, inspiration to write poems, imagination to craft stories, and beauty to paint artistic scenes. All of creation, in Veery Glade and beyond, provides colorful and musical reminders year-round of our Creator’s love, provision, and grace. What joy that Jesus loves us!
